Sleeping Angels

Last night (or rather at 1:45 this morning) as I was saying my prayers before bed and gazing at the sweet sleeping face of my Lili, I began to think about our need for sleep, and God's wisdom in creating creatures who need rest.

Obviously He created us to need sleep, and that is an interesting concept since I've never thought about God sleeping. I find comfort in knowing He is always alert and available to me. Why then should He make sleep so necessary? Was it to teach us to slow down? Was it just a consequence of the whole day/night, light/dark situation, with vision being either best for daytime or night depending on your species? Was it because we all resemble holy angels when we sleep, and He too enjoys watching His children sleep?

Then the epiphany. I knew.

I knew, because as a Mom I treasure nap time. It is quiet. The kids aren't screaming, fighting, demanding things; they are still and beautiful and pure.

I suppose the Lord must love when we are sleeping as well.
