Grocery Shopping Adventure

Our family consumes a lot of food. We get many items at BJ's for that reason. Graham crackers for instance. We buy them by the case. Everyone in the house likes them, and we frequently go through a box in a day. Even though we try to stock up on essentials (have you seen our basement pantry?) it always seems like we're running out of something, and there are some things you don't want to run out of as little people will cry.

This morning it became evident that I really needed to go to Shaw's. Jim was already planning to go to BJ's and Home Depot after work, so if I wanted to both feed my children and see my husband before 9:00 p.m., I had to give it a try.

After circling the parking lot for a few minutes I spotted a Mom with a "fun cart" leaving the store for her car. (I have to use a fun cart because it has 3 seats.) Joe and Faith got to "drive" in the front seats and they took this job seriously, turning the steering wheels back and forth with intensity. Eve sat in the traditional seat by the handle bar and talked the entire time, pointing everything out to me.

"MA-MEE! Punkin! Punkin Ma-meee!"

"Ma-mee, apple. Apple peez!"

"Oh-Gert!! Ma-mee! Oh-Gert!!"

We stopped at the deli for some sliced american cheese, because kids love that stuff and they will give your child a free slice. I got two slices (for Eve and Joe), and a 1/4 lb.

Joe loves cheese, and when he was out he would turn and peek through the back window at me and yell, "CHEESE!"

At the seafood counter I heard Faith yelling, "Jesus! Jesus! It's Jesus!"

Jesus at Shaw's?

I looked around and saw an inflated halloween display that had gravestones topped with crosses.

I had to repeatedly remind the kids that we were there to BUY food, not eat it. Still, no matter where I put the grapes, Eve managed to get one out and eat it when I wasn't looking! By the time we got to the checkout, all we had left of the cheese was an empty bag to scan.

While not an easy shopping trip, I definitely consider it a success!
