The Evolution of Bath Time

Bath time has changed so much in the past two years. Liliana enjoyed a leisurely bath every night for three years before the triplets were born. I wish we could still do this for her, but there just isn't time. Thankfully she has gotten over her fear of the shower!

When the triplets were newborns we used a little fold-up tub. None of them enjoyed that experience, not even me. They were small and slippery, and completely non-compliant. My goal was to get them "cleaner" than they were, and not have not have any injuries. Eventually they got big enough to sit up in the big tub using a bath ring. Nobody liked that either. Once they were mobile we got rid of the ring and let them loose in the tub. Faith loved it right away. She would sit and splash and laugh. Eve was nervous and cautious, but eventually she would relax a bit. Joe hated it. He would cry and refuse to even sit down. I sometimes had to step into the tub just to keep him from escaping. Because everyone had a different level of comfort, we bathed them separately. One night I decided that maybe if Joe saw how much fun Faith was having, he would at least SIT DOWN in the water and not cry. We tried putting all three in the tub. Absolute chaos. Instead of helping Joe relax, it made Faith afraid of the bath because Joe's screams were so loud, echoing in the bathroom. Faith started screaming, then Eve too. Wow was that bath loud. We went back to separate baths for a long time. They had to be quick since I'd go get a child, bring them upstairs, strip them down, bathe, towel, and deliver downstairs. All three began to love the bath and didn't want to get out. I felt terrible that they didn't get more time to play.

A couple of months ago Joe SAT DOWN IN THE TUB. He decided it was fun and started splashing and body slamming the water. Well, last week we tried the group tub again. It was a huge hit! Even Lili wanted in on the bath party. The floor got incredibly wet, but all four kids got relatively clean and had a ball. Because they were in together, they each got more tub time.

We have pictures, which I'll try to post once they are off the camera. Oh, and video, which will be played at their graduation party. :-)

Here they are!!!
