It started with a vague icky feeling in the night Sunday. I couldn't get comfortable. My mid and lower back were hurting. By the time we were roused by the children I knew I was sick. Joe had a fever of 102, but we weren't surprised as he had started developing cold symptoms on Sunday. I had NO cold symptoms. NO fever. I just felt horrible. Even the thought of food made me feel nauseous. Vertical was not an option. I had to lay down. Here it was Jim's second week of work, and I could hardly move. He had to call in.
Praise God for my parents, who quickly came over to help. After an exhausting trip to the doctor, we only knew what it wasn't. It wasn't a respiratory flu. I didn't have fever or any cold symptoms. They did some blood work, and that came back fine except for a slight elevation in my white blood cells.
"You're definitely getting something." said the doctor.
?!?!!?!?!? Yeah, I knew that.
Back at home nurse Lili took good care of me. She examined me with a flashlight, and tried to stick all kinds of things in my ear. Then she proceeded to drag half her toys into my bedroom. Her "ballet bar" became an x-ray machine, and she attached a big hair clip to it, sliding it back and forth for the sound effect. Eventually she proclaimed, "Mommy, you don't have any confection."
Sometime in the afternoon Eve escaped from the living room to find me upstairs. Obviously concerned, she lay on top of me for about ten minutes. She probably would have stayed there for an hour but thankfully Jim brought her (kicking and screaming) back downstairs.
Later that evening when Jim was getting the triplets into their jammies I made it down to the couch and let them crawl on me. Joseph brought me his bear. Faith clutched me. Eve gave me kisses.
Tuesday I insisted Jim go to work as I was able to be more functional. I still needed my parents, but I managed to take a shower, eat some jello, and bring Joe to the doctor. He has a cold virus. Nothing serious.
After two full, exhausting days at my house, my Mom said to me, "How do you get anything done?!?!"
