We are officially under a "flood watch". Between the rain and the snow melt from up north, we could be in for some trouble. If we are forced to evacuate it will be the third year in a row.
The first time was Mother's Day 2006, and the triplets were 3 months old. God bless the Munseys for their hospitality. We arrived at their house around 1:30 a.m. after a harrowing drive through rushing water. Janet sent us up to bed and took the next feeding. (We love you Janet!!!)

Our condo unit had 6 inches of water in it, destroying a lot of stuff.
The back of our unit and our pile of damaged belongings. We saw it on NECN! Jim said, "Hey, that's our stuff!"
It was over a week before we could go home, and longer before we could stay there due both to the electricity being off and the mess we had to clean up. Before we had left Jim had brought as much stuff as he could upstairs out of the basement.
Last year it was March, and Lili was going to have Pajama Day at school. We had to pack in a huge hurry (somehow I packed Lili 14 pairs of underwear, and only one for myself!) I had a minor melt down and had to be calmed down by our neighbor who serves as a volunteer firefighter. Jim got help from the fire dept. putting items from the basement into the living room and kitchen. Dee and Mary Helen came over to watch the kids while we packed. We stayed in Newmarket with a family who has triplet boys. Wow was that crazy! We had received a few offers and decided that family knew what they were in for.
Praise God the water didn't enter our unit that year. Once the water receded enough to drive in, we could return. The biggest disappointment was that the power outage had caused us to lose a lot of food - including many dinners prepared and frozen during Lynn and Frank's recent visit.
Yesterday I looked out back and saw mud. The water in the river was so low there were huge mud banks, and a new island in the middle of the river. Concerned that the Newmarket dam had given way downstream I called the non-emergency police number and asked, "Um, where did the river go?" It seems that the town is finally being proactive and they opened the flood gates wide. As of 2:00p.m. the water level is back up to normal. Let's hope it doesn't rise much more.
